Oslo and Utøya

It is with great shock that we learnt of the traumatic events in Oslo and Utøya on Friday. We are relieved to report that our friends and colleagues involved in Slow Days and Nowhereisland are safe. Set against the darkness and horror of these past few days, the possibilities for a common land in the heart of this city, open to all, encouraging exchange, free speech and sharing seems all the more urgent. Our thoughts are with all Norwegians at this time.

Slow Days in Oslo

This is the first public announcement of a four-day event in Oslo in August 2011 towards the new public art programme for Bjørvika. Held from 16th – 19th August 2011, Slow Days will be a four-day gathering and creative research event. Slow Days has been formulated by the UK-curatorial team, Situations, as an alternative to a conventional conference format, where the context of discussions will diverge from the conventional lecture theatre or conference venue. During Slow Days, talks and stories will be held in convivial settings around Oslo’s harbour context to consider how artists might contribute to a future Bjørvika.

Our confirmed participants currently include:

Carl Honoré (author of In Praise of Slow), artists Amy Franceschini, Katie Paterson, Heather and Ivan Morison, curators Will Bradley, Claire Doherty, Per Gunnar Eeg-Tverbakk, Alistair Hudson, Mary Jane Jacob and Michael Prior.

Places will be strictly limited, so booking is strongly advised and tickets go on sale in ten days. For further information email info@bjorvikautvikling.no
